Alfred App Reviews

From a Former Alfred User

I used Alfred for 4 years. However, with Yosemite OS, it looks like the inevitable happened and Apple built a better Spotlight search feature. Since I like to keep things simple, for the past few weeks I no longer use Alfred and only use Spotlight— and Spotlight hasn’t disappointed me, at least the way I use it. This might be differrent for you and that you might prefer several features that Alfred has which Spotlight doesn’t. Regardless, there is still quite a bit Apple can Learn from Alfred. By comparison, Alfred is probably still more advanced. I recommend it to any mac user.

I had to go back to this because Yosemite Spotlight just doesn’t work as well

In Yosemite i have to spell out almost the full name or half way of what i am searching for. this seriously slowed down my work flow. With alfred i can type 1 or 2 characters and just hit enter blind and it got me what I was looking for. I dont know. How it works or knows but Alfred just works. The spotlight search in Yosemite, not so much.

Better than Yosemite

I dumped Alfred in favor of Yosemite because I thought I would no longer need it. Well after becoming frustrated for the last time with the new spotlight I decided to go back to Alfred. Yosemite spotlight would do aggrivating things such as get the app you want to launch correct, but removing the suggestion right before you hit enter, then I’d have to backspace and retype it and hope it didn’t do it twice. In general, Alfred is much faster and much smarter to use than the new spotlight, so I will continue to use this precious tool and I would suggest that you do, too.

Fantastic app!! Not updated on app store, though?!

I’ve been using Alfred for over two years now, and I can’t imagine going without it. I even installed it on my work computer because it’s become such an invaluable part of my workflow. I use it for everything from launching apps and files to quick Google searches, and its my default calculator as well. its simple but incredibly useful, and I have yet to encounter a single significant annoying glitch. Love it! For some reason, app store doesnt have the most recent version, Alfred 2. It can be found via the app’s website, though. The version here is still awesome—give either one a shot. You won’t regret it.

Nos for your RAM

Not a big reviewer. Lets be honest this one fully deserves the time for one. I love this app! It makes cranking up my Macbook so smooth. if you have any type of routine to the method of madness when it comes to your mac/book then this is the app for you.

Absolutely awesome.

Alfred, simply put, picks up the features Spotlight has yet to add. Not only does it launch apps, but it can also quickly search any website you wish it to. And the best part about this is, IT DOESN’T CRASH, much unlike its predecessors. It would be nice to see it in Yosemite’s new Dark Mode and flatter interface, but that’s mainly my GUI-OCD side kicking in. In short, the best helper app I’ve ever installed.

TERRIBLE

Oh gee look its an app that searches on google. You should have named this app LMGTFY. UN_INSTALLED!!!

Most important app on my Mac

I had been a casual Mac user until about two years ago. I tried Alfred and then immediately went to 2.0 and the Powerpack. I am pure Mac now after almost 30 years of PC (DOS Basic anyone?) I am not sure how many times a day that I use Alfred, but if you told me more than one hundred, I would not be surprised. For example: I use workflows to take notes and web clip (Evernote), send IM/SMS, check world time zones, stock updates, launch applications, eject drives and the list goes on and on. Programming workflows did not take a huge learning curve, but you can easily download hundreds of others that are available for free. Want to know if a certain movie is on Netflix? I can find out quicker than typing these two sentences. Want to search just your work files in your Dropbox? Two keystrokes. I cannot give Alfred a more ringing endorsement.

Awesome

This app is so awesome that even Apple themselves are trying to play catchup with it. I am impressed and am so proud to say that you have surpassed apple’s own standards in Yosemite Spotlight and that’s not too mention that it took apple as long as October 16th of last year to even catchup by 50%

This version of Alfred is 3 years out of date.

Alfred is fantastic. Buy the powerpack– it can save you loads of time. But this version is waaaay out of date. It’s missing the best features and it’s broken in several ways. Get the modern version of Alfred from the website, alfredapp.com.
